Assembly Department Manager

Employment Information

We are seeking an experienced Assembly Department Manager to lead a high-performing manufacturing assembly team within a fast-paced production environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving operational efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring consistent production output while leading a large frontline team.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, supervise, and develop a team of 40+ assembly staff
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Conduct performance reviews, training, and skills development
  • Manage attendance, discipline, and workforce planning

Production & Operations Management

  • Oversee daily assembly line operations to meet production targets
  • Implement and maintain production tracking systems (KPIs, dashboards, visual management)
  • Identify and resolve production bottlenecks quickly and effectively
  • Ensure ERP systems are accurately updated with production data

Process Optimisation

  • Balance assembly lines to improve efficiency and reduce waste
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, Kaizen, continuous improvement)
  • Improve throughput, reduce downtime, and optimise workflows

Quality & Compliance

  • Maintain high-quality standards and ensure first-time-right production targets
  • Conduct regular quality inspections and implement corrective actions
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety standards and OHS regulations
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organised workstations

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Experience in a high-volume manufacturing or assembly environment
  • Proven ability to manage large teams (30–50+ employees)
  • National Diploma or Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related technical field.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing (5S, Kaizen, line balancing)
  • Experience with ERP systems and production tracking tools
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical ability
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Focus on quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement
