Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Project Director, the Education Supervisor leads the technical implementation, coordination and quality of JRS' Education in Emergencies EiE component across the project LGAs Isa, Sabon Birni & Kware LGAs. Based full-time in Sokoto, S/He oversees the work of Education Supervisors, teachers and learning facilitators, leads teachers’ training, establishment and rehabilitation of learning spaces, and ensures effective integration of WASH-in-schools and protection/MHPSS into education activities. The Education Supervisor is responsible for the achievement of education objectives in line with the workplan, budget, donor requirements and INEE Minimum Standards, and represents JRS in education sector and coordination fora at field level.

Key Responsibilities of the position

  • Lead the planning, implementation and quality assurance of the EiE component in line with the project workplan, budget, donor requirements and INEE Minimum Standards.
  • Directly supervise, mentor and build the capacity of Education Supervisors, teachers and learning facilitators.
  • Develop and roll out teacher training packages covering pedagogy, classroom management, psychosocial support, life skills and inclusive education.
  • Oversee the establishment, rehabilitation and equipping of temporary learning spaces, including the integration of WASH-in-schools facilities and practices.
  • Lead enrolment and retention campaigns and accelerated/catch-up learning, prioritising girls, out-of-school children and children with disabilities.
  • Strengthen School-Based Management Committees SBMCs, Parent-Teacher Associations and community engagement around education.
  • Ensure accurate education data collection, analysis and timely, quality reporting, in close coordination with the MEAL Coordinator.
  • Ensure protection and MHPSS mainstreaming across all education activities and effective referral of identified cases.
  • Represent JRS in the Education in Emergencies Working Group/sector and in engagements with LGEAs, SUBEB and relevant line ministries.
  • Contribute to needs assessments, proposal development and the preparation of donor reports.
  • Develop technical specifications for education-related procurement and support budget tracking with the Project Director and Finance.
  • Ensure compliance with the Internal Rules and Procedures of JRS in all education activities.
  • The tasks and responsibilities defined in this job description are non-exhaustive and can evolve depending on the needs of the project.
  • Promote PSEA and safeguarding standards within JRS and amongst the beneficiaries it serves.

Required Profile

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent in Education or any related field; a Master's Degree in a related field is an added advantage.
  • Professional / Work Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in education programming, with at least 2 years in Education in Emergencies EiE or humanitarian contexts working with IDPs, refugees and host communities.

Experience and Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of Education in Emergencies, INEE Minimum Standards and inclusive education.
  • Proven experience in teacher training, coaching and education quality assurance.
  • Good knowledge of institutional donor procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Strong planning, coordination and team leadership skills.
  • Good analytical, writing and reporting skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office; familiarity with mobile data collection tools is an advantage.
  • Ability to represent JRS before education authorities and coordination fora.
  • Ability to work in stressful and hard-to-reach locations and to manage field teams.
  • Strong commitment to child safeguarding and protection-sensitive programming.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to the needs of the team and the organisation.
  • Well organised, thorough and able to meet deadlines.

Qualities

  • Adhere to JRS values and abide by the code of conduct and other policies.
  • Proficient command of the English language written and oral.
  • Good command of Hausa Language is required.
  • Proven work experience in multicultural and stressful environments.
  • Ability to adapt to working conditions and tasks that may change with the reality of the field.
