Position: Feedlot Veterinarian
Herd Health and Clinical Care
- Provide routine and emergency veterinary services to feedlot cattle.
- Conduct clinical examinations and diagnose diseases, injuries, and parasitic infections commonly affecting livestock in Ethiopia.
- Implement appropriate treatment protocols and monitor animal recovery and performance.
Nutritional Management
- Work closely with animal nutritionists to assess and optimize feeding programs.
- Ensure the provision of high-quality roughage and concentrate feeds to maximize growth performance and daily weight gain.
- Monitor feed intake and support efficient feed utilization.
Disease Prevention and Biosecurity
- Develop and implement preventive health programs, including vaccination schedules and parasite control strategies.
- Establish and enforce strict biosecurity measures to minimize the risk of infectious disease outbreaks within the feedlot.
- Conduct regular herd health surveillance and investigate disease incidents.
Staff Training and Capacity Building
- Train farm personnel and animal caretakers on proper animal handling, welfare, hygiene, and disease recognition.
- Promote best management practices to enhance productivity and animal well-being.
Record Keeping and Performance Monitoring
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of treatments, vaccinations, mortalities, and herd health interventions.
- Analyze health and production data to evaluate performance and support informed management decisions.
- Contribute to improving operational efficiency and financial returns.
