About the Role

The successful incumbent will provide strategic leadership and direction to a specialised division responsible for accounting, auditing and industry analysis across a complex financial services landscape.
You will oversee the interpretation and application of accounting and auditing frameworks, provide high-level technical guidance, drive industry analysis, and partner with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure regulatory alignment, governance excellence, and strategic decision-making.
This role requires a leader who is both highly strategic and highly influential — someone who can confidently engage with senior executives, industry bodies, regulators and technical specialists while leading a high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Drive the strategic direction of the division and ensure alignment with broader organisational objectives.
  • Develop and execute divisional strategies and operational plans.
  • Lead transformation, innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide thought leadership on accounting, auditing and industry-related matters.

Technical Oversight & Advisory

  • Provide expert guidance on complex accounting and auditing matters, including financial reporting standards and prudential frameworks.
  • Oversee the interpretation and application of relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks, standards and governance requirements.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders on technical and strategic matters affecting the financial sector.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality analysis and advisory support to key business units.

Industry Analysis & Reporting

  • Oversee industry reporting, trend analysis and strategic publications.
  • Lead the development of management reporting and analytical insights to support decision-making.
  • Drive the monitoring and interpretation of industry developments and emerging risks.

Stakeholder Engagement & Influence

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the organisation in engagements with industry bodies, professional associations and key sector participants.
  • Influence decision-making through strategic engagement, technical credibility and executive communication.

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing specialist team.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, innovation and collaboration.
  • Manage team performance, succession planning and capability development.
  • Ensure effective resource management and operational delivery.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with governance frameworks, legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate operational and divisional risks.
  • Oversee audit findings and ensure appropriate corrective action is implemented.

Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, you should possess:

Qualifications

  • CA(SA) qualification or Fellowship qualification within the actuarial profession.

Experience

  • 10–12 years of experience within the financial services, banking, insurance, auditing or regulatory environment.
  • A minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership or management role.
  • Strong experience in accounting, auditing, financial reporting, governance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven ability to lead strategically within a complex and highly regulated environment.

Important to Note
