Role Summary
- The Head of Technology is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the full technology vision, architecture, and execution of the AISHA platform. This individual will lead a cross-functional engineering and AI team, oversee the design and scalability of the platform, ensure regulatory and data compliance, and translate product vision into robust, secure, and high-performing technical systems. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in AI/ML and health technology with strong people leadership and a passion for impact-driven innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Vision
- Define and execute AISHA's technology roadmap in alignment with product and business objectives.
- Lead architectural decisions across the AI, backend, frontend, and data layers of the platform.
- Stay ahead of emerging technologies in AI, health tech, and conversational agents, integrating relevant advances into AISHA.
- Advise executive leadership on technology investments, infrastructure, and capability building.
AI & Product Development
- Oversee development and continuous improvement of AISHA's core AI models — including NLP, symptom checker, diagnostic reasoning, and health recommendation engines.
- Collaborate closely with the Product team to translate user needs and clinical requirements into technical specifications.
- Drive LLM integration, fine-tuning, and responsible AI deployment practices.
- Ensure AI outputs are clinically appropriate, bias-mitigated, and explainable.
Engineering Leadership
- Recruit, manage, and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, AI/ML researchers, and data scientists.
- Establish engineering best practices including agile delivery, code review, CI/CD pipelines, and documentation standards.
- Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and technical excellence within the team.
- Manage vendor relationships and third-party integrations e.g., EHR systems, telehealth APIs, payment gateways.
Infrastructure, Security & Compliance
- Own the platform's infrastructure, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance.
- Ensure AISHA meets all applicable data privacy regulations including NDPR Nigeria Data Protection Regulation, HIPAA principles, and relevant health data governance frameworks.
- Lead cybersecurity strategy, risk management, and incident response protocols.
- Oversee cloud infrastructure AWS/GCP/Azure and ensure cost-effective resource management.
- Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with clinical advisors, product managers, and business leads to ensure technology serves health outcomes.
- Represent technology in board presentations, investor meetings, and partner discussions.
- Collaborate with the Regulatory and Legal team to ensure platform compliance with Nigerian and international health tech standards.
Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related field. Required
- Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Health Informatics, or an MBA with a technology focus. Preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in software/product engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior technical leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience building and scaling AI-powered or data-driven products — healthtech experience is a strong advantage.
- Proven track record of leading end-to-end product technology delivery from MVP to growth stage.
- Experience working in or with African markets; understanding of low-bandwidth and mobile-first user environments is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in Python, and/or JavaScript/TypeScript; familiarity with Go or Rust is a plus.
- Deep expertise in machine learning frameworks TensorFlow, PyTorch and LLM orchestration tools LangChain, OpenAI API, Anthropic API, etc..
- Proficient in cloud platforms AWS, GCP, or Azure, containerization Docker/Kubernetes, and micro services architecture.
- Experience with FHIR, HL7, or other health data interoperability standards is an advantage.
- Familiarity with vector databases, RAG pipelines, and AI agent frameworks.
