CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The core purpose of the Lecturer is to create, develop, facilitate and administer the acquisition of knowledge and skills by students through appropriate learner and teaching processes in order that they are able to function

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Make a significant contribution to the learning and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Department of Building and Human Settlement Development.
  • Participate in and contribute to publishing of research and innovation.
  • Participate in undergraduate projects and postgraduate student supervision.
  • Perform academic, community and discipline engagements.
  • Contribute to quality of the programmes, programme and accreditation reviews.
  • Network with relevant professional bodies and associations, such as the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP), the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Professions (SACQSP), South African Council of Planners (SACPLAN), South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP), Chartered Institute of Housing and the Institute of Human Settlement Practitioners of South Africa (IHSP-SA).
  • Respond to calls for presentations at conferences and to other interested parties nationally and internationally.

CORE COMPETENCIES

In-depth understanding of the theories and application of Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Housing and Human Settlements Policy Development and Management; and,

  • Ability to facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Ability to work well with other members of the Department.
  • Ability to contribute to the creation of knowledge by virtue of published research in peer-reviewed journals, scholarly books, conferences and/or other texts.
  • Ability to participate in and play a central role in administrative duties.
  • Have strong people management skills.
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills (applicants will be required to present a short lecture to evaluate his/her communication skills).

REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for this appointment, candidates should have: For Lecturer:

  • Possession of a relevant M+5 qualification (Masters) from a recognised institution.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ relevant academic and/or professional experience,
  • Substantive undergraduate grounding in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Housing and Human Settlements Development Policy and Management, and
  • Professional registration with the relevant recognised professional body, or demonstrable eligibility to obtain such registration.
