Responsibilities:
LEADERSHIP/ ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
- Leads the team in formulation, implementation and evaluation of annual goals and objectives in accordance with surgical services and nursing division strategic objectives.
- Provides effective supervision to nursing staff, and utilizes learning opportunities for their development
- Develops collaborative ways of working that link all contributors in the multidisciplinary team in patient care issues.
- Ensures staff coverage and skill mix for safe and effective patient care
- Leads the team in development, implementation anlt review of policies, procedures, protocols, Clinical pathways and care guidelines in line with identified standards.
- Is responsible for the recruitment, selection and training of the Nursing team
- Develops and implements nursing retention strategies to reduce turnover of nursing staff
- Undertake performance reviews of staff in the perioperative Unit and develops action plans to ensure individual staff growth.
- Fosters a pleasant working enviromnent through motivational leadership style to enhance job satisfaction among staff in assigned unit.
- Prepares monthly and annual reports in accordance with set goals and objectives of the multidisciplinary team, and communicates progress to the team
- Puts in place measures to control unit costs, stocks and bad debts
- Participates in the Budget process and ensures efficient utilization of resources
- Collaborate with the Marketing department to design and implement marketing strategies to increase business
- Actively participates in Nursing Division activities such as development of nursing policies, procedures and quality indicators
CLINICAL PRACTICE
- Continuously initiates innovative and evidence-based strategies to improve patient care
- Leads in development of a culture of safe perioperative practice in collaboration with clinical teams, and actively participates in multidisciplinary clinical rounds.
- Together with lead physician leads the team in evaluation of care and outcomes through Mortality and Morbidity discussions, clinical incidence trends and clinical indicators
- Participates in establishment of standards of care with unit staff, and monitors delivery of care according to established standards.
- In collaboration with the Director, surgical Services fosters the development of nurses to maximum potential through providing educational/training opportunities and exposure to appropriate learning forums.
- Ensures a system is in place to monitor nurses' clinical knowledge, skills and competencies
- Employs effective management strategies to support staff in the enhancement of safe patient care
- Promotes nursing research and acts as a resource person for staff in perioperative Unit
- Develops and maintains effective networks both internal and external to improve nursing practice.
- RISK MANAGEMENT AND CUSTOMER CARE
- Is responsible for staff, patient and family satisfaction with perioperative services
- Responds to client complaints in a timely manner by solving the problem or alerting the relevant people
- Ensures program based client satisfaction surveys, monitors trends of incidences/complaints and takes appropriate action Informs CDO and relevant director of high risk patients, incidences and sentinel events
Requirements:
- KRCHN or BSC N with current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
- Certification in BLS.
- Proficient in Basic computer skills
- Minimum of 5 years clinical nursing experience in Operating room nursing in an acute care hospital.
- Demonstrates expert knowledge and skills in Operating theatre nursing.
- Demonstrates leadership and management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
