JOB SUMMARY
To plan and manage occupational therapy services that complies with relevant healthcare standards and policies to assist patients in recovering from short- or long-term injuries through the use of specialized exercise programmes.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements:
- BSc degree: Occupational Therapy
- Must be registered with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
Minimum Experience:
- 3 years’ experience as an Occupational Therapist
- Experience within a private hospital environment advantageous

DELIVERABLES
- Develop and implement quality assurance measures in Occupational Therapy to contribute to the improvement of quality care and patient experience
- Assess patients to determine the most effective treatment plan to manage their recovery and develop appropriate treatment plan
- Monitor, evaluate and revise patient treatment plans to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of treatment
- Participate in the design, ordering, fabricating and fitting of orthotics and self-help objects for patients
- Influence and manage change related to the fitting of orthotics and other self-help equipment
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and provide recommendations on patients’ physical rehabilitation thereby supporting a holistic approach to patient care
- Assist patients with recovering to their full functional ability by recommending appropriate equipment and tools
- Advise patients on life-coping skills
- Advise patient on adaptive equipment and provide training and instruction on the use of such equipment
- Recommend therapeutic activity programs for patients with diagnosed rehabilitation injuries
- Suggest alternatives and provide recommendations on the ergonomics of the patient’s residence to support patient functioning at home
- Liaise, advise and provide caregivers with necessary information and next steps to support any changes to patients’ lifestyle
- Refer patients to relevant support structures and service providers for further treatment in their residential area by providing relevant information
- Maintain complete, accurate and comprehensive patient information and records including preparing detailed patient reports, as and when necessary
- Provide comprehensive reports on patients’ condition, as and when necessary, outlining appropriate details and aligning these with job recommendations
