Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a qualified Protection Assistant –Community Based Protection (CBP) for our operations in  Humera,Maikadra

Overall purpose of the role 

Under the line management of the ERM and the technical supervision of the Protection Specialist CBP, the Protection Assistant – CBP is responsible for implementing community-based protection activities in selected Humera and Maikadra areas. The role focuses on conducting supporting the strengthening/establishment of Community Based Protection Network or Community Based Protection -Focal point (CBPN/CBP-FP), providing training for CBPN/FP, provide technical support for CBPN/FP in conducting community protection analysis, action plan and implementation.   In addition, the protection assistant will be provided relevant basic trainings to provide PSS services.

The Protection Assistant will also support the development of sustainability and exit strategies, facilitate linkages between CBPNs and relevant stakeholders, and contribute to strengthening the capacities of community-based protection structures. 

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Conduct stakeholder mapping and mapping of existing community-based structures (CBS). 
  • Identify appropriate community-based structures to establish or strengthen Community-Based Protection Networks (CBPNs) or Community-Based Protection Focal Points (CBP-FPs). 
  • Facilitate and deliver capacity building training for CBPN/FB
  • Provide technical support for the CBPN to conduct community protection analysis, and develop community action plan that could address the identified protection risks.
  • Ensure adherence to DRC’s Community-Based Protection programming guidance, standards, and protection principles during implementation.
  • Support CBPNs in implementing community action plans through regular follow-up, mentoring, meetings, and monitoring of implementation progress and organizational capacity.
  • Utilize appropriate tools dedicated for the community-based protection program implementation. 
  • Support coordination and collaboration among community representatives, local authorities, and other key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Community Based Protection Networks (CBPN) and conduct community awareness raising and information dissemination on identified protection risks and prevention and mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain good relationships with CBPNs and other stakeholders to support continues community protection analysis, strengthen the structure, ensure sustainability and promote self-protection.    
  • Engage regularly with community-based structures in a respectful, culturally appropriate, and inclusive manner. 
  • Participate in relevant trainings such as Community Based Protection and other topics  
  • Adhere to humanitarian principles and protection standards while engaging with communities and CBPNs/CBP-FPs
  • Ensure proper documentation of all activities conducted, including means of verification, to measure project progress, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Support the development and implementation of transition/exit strategies for community-based protection structures.
  • Facilitate linkages and referrals between CBPNs and relevant service providers, authorities, and humanitarian actors.

Report writing and documentation 

  • Support the effective implementation of project activities and contribute to monthly, quarterly, and donor reports.
  •  Ensure accurate and timely completion of activity reports, CBP tools, attendance records, and other relevant documentation.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all complete appropriate tools and reports. 
  • Provide regular updates and inputs on community-based protection activities, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) processes as required.
