Background 

 

The Center for Implementation Science (CIS) was established in 2022 at the Aklilu Lemma Institute of Health Research, Addis Ababa University, to strengthen the generation and application of evidence for improving health systems and health outcomes in Ethiopia and beyond. The Center operates through a multidisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, social scientists, epidemiologists, and health sector leaders committed to advancing implementation science, measurement, evaluation, and scale-up research.

The SLL360 Program aims to integrate NEST360 evidence-based innovations into the Ministry of Health’s Level II Small and Sick Newborn Care (SSNC) service packages and institutionalize high-quality neonatal care services across Ethiopia. The program focuses on strengthening health systems, improving the availability and utilization of life-saving newborn technologies, building healthcare workforce capacity, and enhancing the quality of care for small and sick newborns.

As part of this nationwide initiative, the SLL360 program is being scaled up across selected regions and hospital networks. In the Somali Regional State, the initiative will support selected facilitates to enhance newborn care services through technical support, mentors-hip, quality improvement activities, capacity strengthening, and implementation assistance.

To support the successful implementation and coordination of the program in the Somali Region, Addis Ababa University, center for implementation sciences is recruiting a Regional Newborn Health Advisor to work within the Maternal, and Child, Health Directorate of the Somali Regional Health Bureau. 

 

Job Summary:  

 

The Regional Newborn Health Advisor will provide strategic technical and management support for newborn health initiatives, in Somali region. This role involves significant responsibility for coordination, development, and execution of the Regional Health Bureau’s Level 2 SSNC plans including the SLL360, ensuring alignment with MoH policies.

 

The advisor will support the regional programmatic and operational management, serving as the region’s primary contact for Level 2 SSNC. Collaborating with relevant newborn health stakeholders and SLL360 Principal Investigators, the advisor will develop and monitor the implementation of the Level 2 SSNC strategies and activities, contributing to its success and policy enhancement.

 

The Regional Newborn Health Advisor will engage with various stakeholders, including SLL360 team members, healthcare professionals, partners, and government entities, to facilitate the Level 2 SSNC effective implementation. Additionally, the Advisor will represent the SLL360 team in Somali region, liaising with NEST360 and other health partners.
