Job Purpose: 

To work in partnership with Makini School to create an environment that promotes healthy living, as well as responding to the needs of individual children

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assess the health needs of the whole school community and developing a health plan, including Health and Safety Policies.
  • Provide confidential health advice for individual children.
  • Support, advise, counsel and refer children to specialists where required
  • Support vulnerable children by working alongside teachers and other professionals.
  • Provide advice to parents, care givers and staff on childhood illnesses and the management and control of infectious diseases.
  • Develop and implement a student health plan.
  • Interpret the health status of students to parents and school personnel.
  • Utilize existing health resources to provide appropriate care to students.
  • Maintain, evaluate and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students.
  • Develop procedures and provide for emergency nursing management for injuries/illnesses.
  • Provide health education and anticipatory guidance.
  • Improvement of health by teaching persons to become more assertive health consumers and to assume greater responsibility for their own health.
  • Ensure proper hygiene is fostered around the middle school section especially around the lavatories

Minimum requirements

Education & Experience

  • Registered Nurse with at least a Diploma in a related discipline
  • At least 2 years working experience in a recognised school
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a similar position or equivalent

Skills, knowledge, abilities & values

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite of packages
  • Knowledge on special activity coordination
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in order to communicate courteously and effectively with students, teachers and parents
  • Strong customer relations skills and ability to work well with all levels of staff
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, a team player and self driven
  • Flexible to work as need be
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Must have an open mind and be adaptable to change, able to develop and implement new procedures and policies
  • Be willing to inspire, challenge, motivate and empower students
