About the Role – Environmental Officer Jobs in Kalumbila Reporting to the Coordinator Environment – LEP, you will lead the implementation, maintenance, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS) aligned with ISO 14001 standards.
Your role will be crucial in ensuring environmental compliance and driving sustainable project outcomes across the Lumwana Expansion Project.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Developing Similar Exposure Groups (SEGs) and formulating comprehensive sampling plans.
- Implementing and enhancing the EMS in accordance with ISO 14001 and company requirements.
- Coordinating environmental audits, inspections, and assurance activities, including preparation for internal and external ISO audits.
- Maintaining Environmental Obligations and Risk Registers to track legal, regulatory, permit, and project requirements.
- Monitoring compliance with environmental permits, licenses, legislation, and project commitments, and ensuring timely resolution of compliance issues.
- Identifying and reviewing environmental aspects, impacts, risks, and opportunities, and implementing appropriate controls.
- Preparing monthly and periodic reports on environmental objectives, targets, KPIs, and performance metrics.
- Managing environmental non-conformances, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Reviewing and monitoring contractor environmental management systems, including plans, procedures, inspections, and audits.
- Developing and maintaining environmental documentation such as procedures, plans, registers, and standards.
- Conducting environmental training, inductions, and awareness programs for employees, contractors, and project teams.
- Ensuring accurate environmental record-keeping for document control, traceability, and audit readiness.
Candidate Requirements for Environmental Officer Jobs in Kalumbila To be successful in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Grade 12 certificate.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering Management, Natural Resources Management, or a related discipline.
- At least four years of relevant experience, preferably within mining, power transmission linear infrastructure, construction, or major capital projects.
- ISO 14001:2015 Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor certification.
- Knowledge of ESG and sustainability reporting principles is advantageous.
- Expertise in environmental monitoring, pollution prevention, and environmental control measures.
- Proven experience implementing and maintaining ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems.
- Membership in a relevant professional body.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Valid Zambian driver’s license.
