Role Overview
The Senior Legal Officer provides legal guidance to ESX internal team and ensuring that the company operates within the bounds of the law. This role involves managing legal risk, overseeing compliance, and representing the organization in legal matters. The position requires a combination of legal expertise, business acumen, private sector experience, and the ability to work closely with the General Counsel.
Duties and Responsibilities of the role
- Provide legal advice to internal teams on a broad range of issues, including product development, contracts, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
- Provide legal insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making. Evaluate the legal and regulatory impact of different business scenarios and propose solutions.
- Collaborate with the internal team to develop long-term strategies aligned with the company’s goals and objectives.
- Represent ESX in legal matters, judicial proceedings, and negotiations.
- Develop and maintain operational policies, rules and procedures including the drafting, implementation, and interpretation of the exchange’s rulebook.
- Collaborate with the internal team on product development
- Oversee the drafting and implementation of contracts, agreements, and partnerships ESX enters into.
- Ensure contracts align with ESX’s legal and business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, laws and standards.
- Handle legal disputes, including litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements, in collaboration with the General Counsel advise the Board of Directors on legal and regulatory matters.
- Interface with government and regulatory agencies on legal matters. Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations affecting the industry.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the legal department.
- Provide legal training and education to internal and external stakeholders.
- Effectively communicate legal policies and procedures to internal and external stakeholders. Translate complex legal concepts into understandable and actionable insights.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
