Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, prepare, format, and proofread legal documents, correspondence, notices, pleadings, and court documents.
  • Manage litigation matters from inception to finalization.
  • Prepare and file High Court and Magistrates’ Court documents in accordance with court rules and procedures.
  • Maintain and manage legal files, records, and documentation.
  • Liaise professionally with clients, attorneys, advocates, sheriffs, correspondents, and court officials.
  • Monitor court deadlines and ensure timely filing and service of documents.
  • Prepare monthly bills of cost and assist with fee collection processes.
  • Manage diaries, appointments, and scheduling of consultations and court appearances.
  • Perform general administrative and secretarial duties within the Litigation Department.
  • Ensure accuracy and attention to detail in all legal documentation and correspondence.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Litigation Secretary within a law firm.
  • Extensive knowledge of High Court and Magistrates’ Court procedures and processes.
  • Proven ability to draft and prepare litigation documents independently.
  • Excellent typing, drafting, and proofreading skills.
  • Bilingual in Afrikaans and English, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working on LegalSuite.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
