The role involves ensuring structural integrity, safety compliance, and operational efficiency within mining and mineral processing environments.Core DutiesDesign and analyse mining infrastructure including:Conveyor structuresCrushers and processing plantsSteel platforms and walkwaysHeadgear structuresPipe racksPump stationsWorkshops and warehousesOre handling facilitiesTailings and water-retaining structuresPrepare structural calculations, technical specifications, and engineering reportsDesign reinforced concrete and structural steel systems for mining operationsConduct structural inspections, integrity assessments, and condition audits on existing mining facilitiesPerform load assessments for heavy industrial and mining equipmentDevelop foundation designs for vibrating and heavy mechanical equipmentEnsure compliance with:SANS codesMine Health and Safety ActOccupational Health and Safety regulationsClient engineering standardsReview fabrication and construction drawingsCoordinate with multidisciplinary teams including:Mechanical EngineersElectrical EngineersMining EngineersProject ManagersContractorsConduct site visits to mines for inspections, measurements, and construction monitoringProvide technical support during shutdowns, maintenance projects, and plant expansionsAssist with feasibility studies, CAPEX projects, and tender documentationEvaluate structural risks and recommend remedial actionsPrepare rehabilitation and strengthening solutions for aging mining infrastructureParticipate in project planning, scheduling, and budgetingManage engineering deliverables within project deadlinesEnsure quality assurance and adherence to engineering best practicesMentor junior engineers, draughtsmen, and technicians where applicableLiaise with clients and attend technic...   • Design of:
    • Structural steel connections

    • Equipment support structures
    • Retaining walls
    • Elevated structures
    • Dynamic load-bearing structures
  • Conduct finite element analysis where required
  • Assess vibration and fatigue impacts on structures
  • Review geotechnical information for foundation design
Safety and Compliance Responsibilities
  • Promote a strong safety culture on mining sites
  • Ensure designs prioritise operational and personnel safety
  • Identify structural hazards and implement mitigation measures
  • Adhere to mine site safety procedures and permit systems
  • Participate in HAZOP and risk assessment processes
