We are currently seeking two full-time Water Treatment Plant Operators to join our team and contribute to maintaining high water quality standards.

About the Role:

Water Treatment Plant Operators Reporting to the Shift Charge Technologist/Engineer, the Water Treatment Plant Operators (Grade KGN3) will play a vital role in the operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities. These positions require hands-on involvement in monitoring, testing, and ensuring compliance with water quality regulations set by ZEMA and WHO.

Key Responsibilities Conduct routine maintenance on pumps, valves, feeders, and associated equipment. Perform building and facility upkeep including custodial duties.

Read and interpret meters, gauges, and instruments; accurately record daily data in databases or spreadsheets. Collect and test water samples to ensure compliance with quality standards.

Maintain comprehensive records such as work orders, maintenance logs, and inspection reports. Monitor water treatment processes including coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection.

Operate valves, gates, and pumps to regulate water flow and chemical dosing. Inspect water reticulation systems, identify equipment faults, and perform minor repairs or adjustments.

Recommend operational improvements to meet water quality targets. Assist in evaluating incoming supplies and equipment related to water treatment.

Ensure adherence to safety procedures and environmental regulations in collaboration with SHERQ and Environmental Officers. Participate in emergency response and provide after-hours standby support as required.

Qualifications and Experience Grade 12 certificate or equivalent qualification. Craft certificate in Water Operations and Supply or equivalent from a recognised institution.

Minimum of two years’ experience in operating water treatment plants or similar industrial environments. Strong knowledge of water treatment processes, chemical handling, and safety protocols.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills. Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
