CRITICAL PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
- Perform structured fault finding on PLC-controlled process plants, SCADA systems and field instrumentation, including diagnosis of communication networks (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP)
- Involvement with small scale software changes and programming of PLC and SCADA systems
- Calibrate and verify temperature, pressure, flow, level, pH, ORP and conductivity instruments in accordance with OEM specifications and site standards (experience with OEM’s such as Vega and Endress+Hauser will be advantageous).
- Assemble, disassemble, test, maintain and repair instrumentation used in water treatment and chemical processes, ensuring minimum plant downtime.
- Audit, control and maintain instrumentation spares inventory, ensuring critical spares availability and accurate documentation in line with Proxa standards.
- Provide technical support and expert advice to maintenance and operations teams, to improve plant stability, process efficiency and equipment reliability.
- Assist in contingency planning and organising of planned outages.
- Respond to outages and problems promptly and document root causes.
- Minimise engineering related breakdowns and call outs in areas of responsibility.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are always maintained in good working condition.
- Ensure full compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), Occupation Health and Safety Act (OHS Act) and client site requirements, maintaining high safety and housekeeping standards.
- Execute small programming improvements and projects on the PLC and SCADA
- Ability to interpret P&ID’s, loop drawings, electrical schematics and network layouts
- Operational and safety procedures pertaining to maintenance activities, including safe use of tools and hand tools.
- Maintain pertinent records.
- Read, interpret and understand data.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written form.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contracted in the course of work.
- Basic understanding of OHS Act and the application there of.

REQUIREMENTS- Treatment plant environment, exposure to noise, vibration, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, solvents, toxic materials, hazardous chemicals within the allowable exposure limits as defined by Department of Labour.
- Exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions.
- Working in confined spaces.
- Working at heights.
- Work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including uneven surfaces.
- Physical ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and operating motorized equipment.
- Good hand-eye-co-ordination.
- See in the normal visual range with or without correction to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate equipment.
- Hear the normal audio range with or without correction.
- Must own a vehicle (own transport)
- Be willing to travel
- Have own accommodation within close proximity (Witbank)
- Perform standby duties after hours and over weekends.
