Requirements:
- OHS Act Training: Understanding the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- HIRA: Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
- Incident Investigation: Learning how to report and evaluate workplace accidents
- Formal Safety Qualifications (SAMTRAC, NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC), Occupational Certificate (OHS Practitioner - SAQA ID: 121929)
Responsibilities: - Hazard Identification & Risk Management
- Risk Assessments: Identify potential workplace hazards and assess the associated risks.
- Site Inspections: Conduct routine walkthroughs to spot unsafe practices, faulty equipment, or dangerous conditions.
- Mitigation: Develop and implement practical controls (like guards, barricades, or ventilation) to mitigate identified risks before injuries occur
- Compliance & Policy Enforcement
- Regulatory Adherence: Ensure the workplace meets occupational health and safety standards.
- Policy Development: Draft, update, and communicate safety manuals, procedures, and emergency response plans.
- Enforcement: Ensure that employees and contractors use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhere to safe work practices
- Incident Investigation & Reporting
- Root Cause Analysis: Investigate the root causes of accidents, injuries, and near-misses.
- Corrective Actions: Formulate strategies to prevent a recurrence of the incident.
- Documentation: Keep meticulous records of all safety meetings, equipment inspections, and incident reports.
