Key Responsibilities
 

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HSE management systems, policies, procedures, and safe work practices to ensure continuous improvement across all operations.
  • Supervise Safety Officers and manage team expectations, allocating responsibilities and overseeing daily SHEQ functions.
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and awareness campaigns to embed a strong safety culture across the workforce.
  • Ensure all HSE registers, permits, files, and contractor documentation are current, accurate, and compliant.
  • Maintain all relevant document control in line with the SHE Document Control standard, ensuring records are kept up to date.
  • Ensure seamless collaboration with quality and compliance departments, maintaining document control and uniformity within existing standards.
  • Conduct and participate in safety committee meetings, ensuring all reported issues are addressed and resolved promptly.
  • Prepare regular safety reports and ensure all safety protocols are adequately communicated and adhered to by all staff and contractors.
  • Enforce applicable safety rules, regulations, and company policies across all site activities, fostering a safe-work culture.
  • Develop and maintain emergency preparedness plans and coordinate evacuation drills across all sites.
  • Ensure all emergency equipment is regularly inspected and maintained in full compliance.
  • Support all compliance audits and site inspections, providing safety expertise and documentation as required.
  • Ensure live tracking of all compliance-related issues and safety initiatives.
  • Develop safety mitigation plans for raised safety concerns, including compliance issues, risk assessments, and reported incidents.
  • Oversee safety compliance for all contractors, including inductions, safety files, toolbox talks, and adherence to applicable legislation.
  • Represent the organisation at safety regulatory bodies and engage with relevant authorities as required.
 
Qualifications & Experience
 
  • Grade 12 / Matric (essential).
  • SAMTRAC qualification (advantageous but not compulsory).
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a SHEQ management role.
  • Experience within the FMCG, oil and gas, or manufacturing sector is strongly preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of applicable legislation: OHS Act 85/1993, NEMA, and all relevant environmental and safety regulations.
  • Proven experience in incident investigation, HSE reporting, legal compliance management, and administration.
  • Strong background in emergency preparedness, hazard identification, risk assessments, and continuous improvement processes.
