This role is pivotal in coordinating and optimizing drill and blast QA/QC activities across shifts. The Shift Supervisor will ensure drilling and blasting meet design specifications, quality benchmarks, and safety requirements while driving continuous improvement through data analysis and effective leadership.

This position acts as the essential link between field execution and strategic planning to deliver consistent blast outcomes that enhance mine productivity.

Key Responsibilities for Shift Supervisor Jobs in Solwezi Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ):

• Enforce strict compliance with SHEQ policies, conduct shift safety briefings, inspections, risk assessments, and lead incident investigations and hazard identification.

Operational Supervision:

• Oversee all drill and blast QA/QC activities, ensuring holes meet design criteria, managing dipping, redrills, blast readiness, and monitoring explosive loading and stemming quality.

Quality Assurance and Control:

• Maintain QA/QC protocols for drilling, charging, and blasting; validate stemming height and material quality; monitor powder factor compliance and blast outcomes.

Performance Monitoring:

• Track shift performance against targets, conduct post-blast evaluations, support optimization initiatives, and ensure data integrity within QA/QC systems.

Team Leadership:

• Supervise Area Supervisors and QA/QC teams, allocate resources efficiently, provide coaching and training, and promote teamwork and accountability.

Stakeholder Coordination:

• Collaborate with Drilling, Blasting, MTS, and contractors to align design, execution, and production objectives, ensuring compliance with QA/QC standards.

Continuous Improvement:

• Drive root-cause analysis of issues, contribute to QA/QC procedure enhancements, and encourage innovation in drill and blast operations.
• Qualifications and Experience Grade Twelve Certificate or equivalent.
• Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• ZAQA verifications required.
• Supervisory certificate is an advantage.
• Valid blasting license and First Aid certificate holders preferred.
• Valid driver’s license is essential.
• Minimum 4 to 5 years’ experience in open pit mining, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Proven expertise in drill patterns, explosives handling, blast design, and optimization.
• Strong knowledge of mining QA/QC protocols and quality standards.
• Competent with basic computer applications and mining-related software.
