About the Role:
Superintendent Operational Efficiency Jobs in Kalumbila Reporting directly to the Optimisation Manager, the Superintendent - Operational Efficiency will lead initiatives to enhance business and operational efficiency across the site.
This hands-on, field-based position focuses on optimizing daily operational performance metrics such as loading efficiency, truck and equipment queuing, shovel/loader hang time, cycle times, and overall fleet utilization.
Working collaboratively across departments including Operations, Maintenance, Dispatch, Processing, and Finance, you will identify inefficiencies and spearhead reduction programs that translate into measurable productivity improvements.
Key Responsibilities Lead site-wide productivity and efficiency improvement programs targeting loading efficiency, queuing, hang time, cycle times, and fleet utilization. Collaborate with Dispatch to support real-time decision-making that maximizes equipment utilization and minimizes delays.
Manage and develop the Analytics team to collect and interpret operational, GPS/GNSS, and fleet-management data to identify performance challenges and opportunities. Utilize geospatial data, including GPS fleet tracking and haul road layouts, to pinpoint bottlenecks and inefficient traffic patterns.
Design and implement structured reduction programs with clear targets, ownership, and timelines. Coordinate cross-departmental efforts to ensure practical adoption and sustainability of improvement initiatives.
Monitor key operational KPIs and report performance against targets to site leadership. Translate efficiency gains into quantifiable business value such as cost savings and productivity improvements.
Conduct root-cause analyses on recurring operational losses and lead corrective actions with department heads. Develop reporting tools and dashboards to provide real-time visibility into efficiency performance for operational and site leadership.
Manage operating budgets and cost-efficiency targets with delegated authority for operational expenditures. Contribute to site technology and data governance to ensure reliable, well-managed analytics and fleet systems.
Required Qualifications and Experience Grade 12 School Certificate. Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
At least 10 years of practical, hands-on experience in mining or heavy industrial operations. Direct experience with mine dispatch systems and fleet management platforms such as Hexagon or Wenco.
Strong expertise in loading and haulage operations, including understanding of loading efficiency, hang time, queuing, and cycle times. Advanced data analysis skills with extensive use of geospatial/GPS data and GIS platforms for operational diagnostics.
Proven leadership of cross-departmental efficiency or continuous improvement initiatives with measurable outcomes. Demonstrated people management experience, ideally with operational and analytics teams.
Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to drive change adoption at the field level. Eligibility to hold statutory mine positions under local mining regulations and willingness to act in senior site leadership roles when required.
Familiarity with GIS or spatial-analysis tools such as ArcGIS or fleet-management systems with spatial visualization capabilities. Active membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia.
