Technical Costing Engineer

Employment Information

This role is critical to improving the accuracy, consistency, and scalability of our pricing and tendering processes, including the redevelopment and ongoing management of our equipment costing tools, which support both standard and custom engineered equipment.
The successful candidate will combine mechanical engineering knowledge, manufacturing costing expertise, tendering experience, and team leadership capability to support profitable growth and improve internal systems and controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Equipment Costing Systems Development & Management
  • Review, audit, and rebuild existing Excel-based equipment costing tools.
  • Develop accurate and maintainable costing models for standard and custom equipment.
  • Validate material, labour, machining, fabrication, bought-out items, and overhead cost structures.
  • Improve BOM-based costing logic and pricing methodologies.
  • Establish costing controls, assumptions, and margin review processes.
  • Maintain and continuously improve pricing tools in line with material cost movements and manufacturing realities.
  • Work with technical, procurement, and production teams to ensure costing models reflect actual costs.
Tendering, Estimating & Proposals
  • Manage and support the preparation of technical and commercial tenders.
  • Review RFQs, specifications, and tender documentation.
  • Lead internal estimating and proposal development processes.
  • Support pricing strategy for quotations and large project submissions.
  • Improve tender and quoting quality, consistency, and risk identification.
Internal Sales Management
  • Support the external sales team.
  • Drive enquiry-to-quotation workflows and improve response efficiency.
  • Support the development of structured internal sales processes and systems.
  • Review quotations prior to submission for technical and commercial accuracy.
Technical Support & Applications Engineering
  • Support equipment selection, configuration, and technical solution development.
  • Assist in developing standard product configurations and pricing structures.
  • Support technical handover from sales to operations when required.
Process Improvement & Systems
  • Assist in improving internal systems, data structures, and processes relating to pricing, tendering, and sales support.
  • Support integration of costing tools into future ERP, automation, or design automation initiatives.
  • Drive standardization and continuous improvement.
Minimum Requirements
  • Mechanical Engineering Diploma, BTech, or Degree.
  • 8+ years relevant experience in:
  • Mechanical equipment costing
  • Tendering / estimating
  • Internal sales or proposals
  • Engineered-to-order equipment environments
  • Strong Excel modelling capability (advanced level essential).
  • Strong understanding of BOM structures and manufacturing cost drivers.
  • Experience managing or mentoring teams.
  • Strong commercial and analytical ability.
Advantageous Experience
Experience in one or more of the following will be advantageous:
  • Water and wastewater equipment
  • Process equipment
  • Fabrication / heavy engineering
  • Pump, valve, or rotating equipment industries
  • ERP systems exposure
  • Design automation or costing system development
