Summary of the Role
Responsible for complying with the Mine Health and Safety Act, conducting slot dozing activities in the open-cast pit, and ensuring maximum ore is pushed and made available for loading to the process plant in a safe and efficient manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate the dozer safely and according to company standards.
- Complete all required pre-shift inspections.
- Check fan, timing, and alternator belts for wear and correct tension.
- Check and maintain radiator water levels.
- Inspect all G.E.T. (Ground Engaging Tools) and report any missing components immediately.
- Check the radiator and oil cooler for leaks and cleanliness.
- Inspect the engine and hydraulic systems for oil leaks.
- Clean windows, mirrors, lights, and ensure clear visibility.
- Check that all lights, hooter, and safety equipment are operational.
- Inspect battery terminal connections.
- Level and maintain stockpile dumps.
- Maintain safety berms on dumps according to mine procedures.
- Keep the machine clean and in a hygienic condition.
- Perform any other reasonable duties required by operational needs.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10.
- Valid Dozer Competency Certificate (CAT D6R, D9R, D10R).
- Minimum 3 years' experience working in an opencast mining environment.
- Successfully pass a Dover Test (mine requirement).
- Basic communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work varied schedules under diverse conditions and sometimes stringent time constraints.
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions provided in written, verbal, or diagram form.
