Legal Counsel Jobs in Lusaka – Strategic Legal Leadership Position:
Legal Counsel (Three-Year Contract) Location:
National Museums Board Secretariat, Lusaka The Legal Counsel will provide expert legal advice and leadership to ensure NMB’s compliance with laws and regulations, manage legal risks, and safeguard the Board’s interests. This role requires oversight of contracts, litigation, regulatory matters, and legal training for staff.
Main Responsibilities:
Develop and manage annual departmental work plans and budgets.
Ensure compliance with international laws, statutes, and regulations affecting NMB operations.
Maintain legal archives, including contracts, judgments, and memoranda.
Advise the Board, Director General, and senior management on governance and legal matters.
Draft, review, and analyze legislation, contracts, and legal documents.
Prepare judicial and extrajudicial legal actions and manage litigation processes.
Liaise with external counsel and government legal authorities.
Coordinate legal training initiatives for staff in collaboration with Human Resources.
Lead legal reform initiatives and legislative updates to improve Zambia’s business environment.

Qualifications and Experience:
Grade 12 Certificate with at least five credits, including English.
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
Postgraduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting.
Advocate of the High Court of Zambia and member in good standing of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ).
Minimum seven years’ experience at the Bar, with proven ability in contract drafting and legal advisory roles.
