JOB SUMMARY
The Technical Intern
– Sales & Agronomy will provide hands-on field support to farmers,
agro-dealers, and the agronomy team in promoting good horticultural practices
and improved seed varieties. The role focuses on practical farmer support,
field demonstrations, crop monitoring, and customer engagement within
horticultural farming communities.
The intern will work
directly with farmers in the field to support crop establishment, pest and
disease management, demonstration plot activities, and product promotion while
gaining practical experience in agronomy, horticulture production, and agricultural
extension services.
JOB PURPOSE
To provide practical
field-based agronomy and sales support through farmer engagement, crop
monitoring, demonstration plot management, technical advisory services, and
promotion of horticultural seed products.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Agronomy & Farmer Support
- Conduct regular field visits to
support farmers growing horticultural crops.
- Guide farmers on nursery
establishment, transplanting, irrigation, fertilizer application, pruning,
staking, mulching, and harvesting practices.
- Support farmers in identifying
pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and crop stress challenges.
- Provide basic technical
recommendations to improve crop performance and productivity.
- Escalate complex technical issues
to the Agronomist for further support.
- Monitor crop growth and field
performance within assigned farming areas.
Demonstration Plots & Variety Trials
- Assist in setting up and
maintaining horticultural demonstration plots and seed trials.
- Support planting, irrigation,
spraying, fertilization, weeding, and general crop maintenance activities.
- Collect field data on
germination, crop growth, disease tolerance, maturity, and yield
performance.
- Ensure demonstration plots are
well maintained and reflect recommended agronomic practices.
- Support field demonstrations and
farmer visits to trial sites.
Farmer Training & Extension Support
- Support farmer trainings and
practical demonstrations on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs).
- Educate farmers on proper crop
management and responsible use of agricultural inputs.
- Assist in organizing field days,
exhibitions, and farmer engagement activities.
- Distribute technical information
and training materials to farmers and customers.
Sales & Customer Support
- Support promotion of
horticultural seed products to farmers, agro-dealers, and distributors.
- Participate in field marketing
campaigns, customer visits, and promotional activities.
- Explain basic product features
such as maturity period, yield potential, adaptability, and disease
resistance.
- Conduct customer follow-ups and
maintain good farmer relationships.
- Assist in identifying potential
customers and sales opportunities in assigned areas.
Market Feedback & Reporting
- Collect farmer feedback on seed
performance and crop challenges.
- Monitor competitor activities and
market trends within assigned territories.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and
monthly field activity reports.
- Maintain records of farmer
visits, trainings, demonstration plots, and customer interactions.
- Report pest outbreaks, disease
incidences, or major crop challenges promptly.
Operational Support
- Assist with logistics and
coordination of field activities and trainings.
- Ensure proper handling and
accountability of company seeds, samples, and field materials.
- Comply with company safety
procedures and operational standards during field assignments.
- Perform any other duties assigned
by management.
JOB REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in
Horticulture, Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Agribusiness, or a
related field.
- Fresh graduates or candidates
with up to 1 year of experience are encouraged to apply.
- Basic understanding of
horticultural crop production and agronomic practices.
- Knowledge of vegetable
production, nursery management, irrigation, and pest management is an
added advantage.
- Willingness to work extensively
in the field and rural farming communities.
- Ability to ride a motorcycle or
possession of a riding permit is an added advantage.
- Basic computer skills and
knowledge of Microsoft Office applications are an added advantage.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)
- Conduct 12–15 farmer field visits
per week within assigned areas.
- Support establishment and
maintenance of at least 3 demonstration plots per season.
- Participate in at least 5 farmer
trainings, field days, or demonstrations per month.
- Submit weekly field reports with
at least 95% accuracy and completeness.
- Report major pest, disease, or
crop performance issues within 48 hours.
- Conduct at least 15 customer
follow-up visits or calls per month.
- Engage at least 10 new farmers or
agro-dealers per month through field activities.
- Support achievement of assigned
seasonal sales support targets.
- Maintain proper records for all
farmer visits, demonstrations, and trainings.
- Ensure proper handling of company
products and field materials with minimal losses or damages.
- Comply fully with company
agronomy procedures and safety standards during field activities.
