An intimate Big Five safari lodge set within the unfenced wilderness of the Balule Private Nature Reserve is seeking a skilled and experienced TRACKER to join their field guiding team.
This is a hands-on bush role suited to a candidate with sharp tracking instincts, strong wildlife knowledge, and the ability to enhance the guest game drive experience through accurate spoor identification and animal behaviour reading.
The successful candidate will work closely with a ranger/guide in a small, close-knit operation where attention to detail and a genuine passion for the bush are non-negotiable.
Candidate Responsibilities:
- Track animals and assist the ranger/guide in locating and following wildlife
- Identify spoor, signs, and behavioural cues to predict game movement
- Operate as a co-pilot during game drives, assisting with guest safety and experience
- Communicate relevant wildlife findings clearly and accurately
- Maintain awareness of the reserve's terrain and seasonal patterns
- Uphold safety protocols at all times in the field
- Assist with vehicle checks and equipment care as required
Core Criteria:- Proven experience in a tracker role within a Big Five environment
- Strong knowledge of animal tracks, spoor, and bush craft
- Ability to read animal behaviour and anticipate movement
- Valid tracker qualification - FGASA Tracker rating or equivalent
- Good communication and guest interaction skills
- Physically fit and comfortable working in a remote environment
- Reliable, professional, and a team player
